ABOUT US

After being a senior executive at several companies, my wife and I had the desire to become entrepreneurs and to serve the local community. Through an exhaustive search, it became apparent that Smash My Trash had the right balance of innovation and providing something unique to Colorado Springs that put money back in small business owners hands. Since I was used to the ever changing threat landscape in the cybersecurity field, I felt this challenge of disrupting the waste industry while helping the environment was something the local community could benefit from.

Colorado Springs and the Pike Peak region is an outdoor lover’s paradise, with natural landmarks such as Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak, one of America’s most iconic mountains. The Springs is a big city with a small-town feel, and is often rated as one of the country’s best cities to live in with strong support for our military. At an altitude of 6,035 feet, the Springs is the home to the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Cheyenne Mountain, the US Olympic Training Center, and “The Race to the Clouds” – the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, to name a few.

John Hellickson

Owner & President

Having grown up in North Pole, Alaska, John loves Colorado and takes full advantage of the outdoors with his ever changing ‘experience everything’ hobbies. John has spent the last 26 years practicing cybersecurity, having served as the Chief Security Officer for the world’s largest third-party credit card processor. Earlier in his career, Hellickson served seven years in the US Air Force, supporting base communications, information technologies, and managing the security of highly classified systems directly supporting the United States nuclear war plan at US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). John is on the Board for Security Advisor Alliance, a non-profit focused on promoting information security to the next generation.

Jon Hergenrader

Account Manager - Smash My Trash Pikes Peak Region

Originally from Lincoln, NE Jon has spent the last 22 years in Colorado Springs. He has 20 years of experience in business to business sales and consulting. He enjoys helping companies grow and be profitable by being a trusted advisor with his clients best interest in mind.

Jon, his wife Amanda, and son Alex enjoy spending time in the great outdoors Colorado offer from ATV exploring to boating and camping. He also enjoys playing golf, tennis and is active in the Colorado Springs softball community. During the winter months he enjoys snowboarding and playing cards with family and friends.

Douglas (Doug) Brace

Driver & Smash Operator

Doug is a 20+ year seasoned CDL driver, of which includes driving for Greyhound Lines and Ramblin Express here in the Springs. Doug is a veteran of the US Army, and was an auto mechanic for many years. He spends his relaxing time camping, fishing, hiking and just enjoying nature.

Joshua (Josh) Brown

Driver & Smash Technician

Josh is a hardworking & energetic member of the Pikes Peak Smash Team, who has vast experience with big rigs such as our Smash Truck. Josh served 10 years in the US Army, running a heavy equipment shop and achieved accomplishments such WLC, ALC, Airborne School, Environmental Protection Officer, FBCB2 LDR OPENT Certified, Unit Armorer CRS, and Combat Life Savers Course.
